OBJECTIVE I was presented with the opportunity to bring the identity of Ocean Aire, a well-respected aviation company, in to the twenty-first century. Ocean Aire is a full service fixed-base operator that offers services such as aviation maintenance and storage, avionics, fueling, deicing, and sight-seeing tours. Most notably, the company is known for its advanced FAA Part 141 certified flight training program. With the company's last brand refresh occurring over a decade ago, Ocean Aire decided it was time for a new look.

APPROACH What thrilled me about this project was the chance to design for an industry that I did not have much experience working with. I was excited to generate ideas for such an advanced and high-tech field. Simultaneously, I had to keep in mind that Ocean Aire is a small business that would like to maintain an approachable and community-based feel. In order to achieve this feeling, I used simplistic and modern elements with rounded edges to build a striking new mark for the brand.

THE MARK The most integral task of this brand update was a creating a fresh mark that communicated the services offered by Ocean Aire. Through many rounds of revisions, I learned that it was important to the client that the new mark did not have a "corporate" feel. The client made it clear that they wanted to maintain their image as a small, personable brand. With that in mind, I skipped over the traditional decorative elements associated with aviation companies (wings, abstract waves and lines) and got down to the essence of this brand—airplanes.

IN USE A new logo can be a great way to bring new life to a brand, but the new aesthetic or visual standard that it creates must apply to each deliverable that the company has to create a sense of unity. Above you can see instances of the new visual in use on business cards, polo shirts, and other materials.

WEB Another major update for the Ocean Aire image included a redesigned website. The old website was clunky, dated, and had no visual consistency throughout its pages. This glimpse at the new website shows how the new site highlights the main services offered by the aviation company and takes users through an easy-to-navigate journey. Whether they are looking to learn more about Ocean Aire, enroll in flight instruction courses, or store their aircraft, they will have an enjoyable and educational experience with this additional touchpoint of the brand.
