MORTAL INK BRAND CONCEPT

Conceptualizing a unique brand and possible marketing tactics.

OBJECTIVE  The objective of this project was to conceptualize a unique brand and then create an identity, packaging elements, and a few marketing materials for that brand.

APPROACH  This project gave me a chance to really be creative so I wanted to create a brand with a larger sense of personality than I have done in the past. I came up with Mortal Ink, a semi-permanent tattoo company striving to eliminate tattoo regret and help people express their personal style. Semi-permanent tattoos are tattoos that last between 10-20 days and have the appearance of a real tattoo. I really wanted to utilize my marketing minor in this project so I started out by creating a survey about tattoos and tattoo regret and doing plenty of research. The main visuals for this brand included bold type choices, stark contrasting colors, and vector art.

THE NAME  The name Mortal Ink was derived from slang that the target audience associates with the nature of the product. The term 'ink' is commonly used by the target audience to refer to tattoos, and 'mortal' is understood as meaning something that does not last forever. We can thank our generation's obsession with vampire shows and movies for the latter understanding. The name also has a feel that fits well into the vocabulary of the younger audience that is being targeted.

PRESENTATION  I chose to display this project in a presentation format as it gave me the most opportunity to explain this unique, new business. In this presentation, viewers will learn more about the thought process behind creating this bold company and the research that led to the final solutions. STARTER PACKS   One of the main features of the Mortal Ink brand is their unique starter packs. These kits come in three different styles consisting of the Classic pack, the Celestial pack, and the Wanderer pack. Each kit has four different tattoos and everything that the consumer would need to apply the tattoos. These kits are meant to generate interest in the product and are also a fun way to constantly switch up your personal style. Above is an example of one of the starter kits and what the packaging would look like for those. The leftmost image shows the box with the black sleeve on it featuring the Mortal Ink mark and the product information. The second image shows what the box looks like once that sleeve is removed. The third and fourth images to show a closer look at the designs for the box. The four different icons seen on each box are the tattoos that are included in the kit.
06. 
SOCIAL MEDIA  One of the most crucial locations for Mortal Ink to reach their target audience is on social media. Instagram posts packed with as much attitude as the target audience has is a great way to get their attention. These posts would also drum up some user-generated content through a #MortalMoments social media campaign that aims to get people to share moments that made them feel like the most human.
