OBJECTIVE In order to refine my skills in Adobe After Effects, I chose to animate a narrative described by Carl Sagan in his book Pale Blue Dot. I wanted to create a complete story, meaning that I wanted there to be a clear beginning, middle, and end.

APPROACH I started off this project knowing that I wanted to challenge myself by using quite a bit of illustration. Neither illustration or After Effects are my greatest skills as a designer, but you don't become a better designer by always sticking to what you know! I first developed the planets and the solar system that I wanted to work with. After a few iterations of how I wanted these to look, I came up with a general visual for my animation. From there, I added illustrations along the story line and even incorporated some of my own family photos for a variety of media. I am very happy with how the different elements and moments of this animation came together to create a complete story.
