OBJECTIVE The objective for this project was to select a classic novel, create a more modern, eye-catching cover for that novel, create a poster for the rerelease of the novel, and lastly, create six social media posts to be posted on Instagram to advertise the rerelease of the novel.

APPROACH My approach to this project was to first select the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. From here, I knew that for the book cover, poster, and social media posts that I wanted to keep the main points of the book the feature of my redesign. The idea that I focused on the most was isolation, which is represented by the phone because in the book, Holden Caulfield always wanted to call someone but he didn't have anyone he actually wanted to talk to.

POSTER Using simple hand-drawn shapes, I was able to convey a similar message as seen on the cover while utilizing micro and macro elements to draw the viewers eye around the poster.

SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS The last portion of this project was dedicated to creating a set of Instagram posts that may be seen on the profile of the publishing company that is rereleasing the book. The idea behind the posts I designed was that they would introduce the most important characters in the book to generate interest in reading it. The illustrations include a quote or some key words associated with each character in the novel.
